A large, jet black cat around the size of a large labrador was seen this week in forestry north of Battle chasing a young roe deer. It was, as reported by the witness, running very fast, in a cat like way unlike as a dog would and also was described as having a long tail. Most of the reports that come in from this area describe a similar sized cat however it is usually seen at night crossing the main Battle\Seddlescombe road. Powdermill woods is another place big cats have historically been seen on a regular basis.
Back further west and the truly huge black cat seen in the Lewes/Uuckfield area a lot last year may of been witnessed crossing the Lewes to Uckfield road at night. The report came in to this website (thanks for that!) and the witness described a "very big black cat". If it is this cat then it's expected to migrate north to the Ashdown forest area june time. Coincidentally this is when the fallow deer drop their young, easy pickings perhaps.
No further reports have come in as yet from elsewhere in the county this spring.
